We all have thoughts – conditioned behavior believing that happiness is attained through this ‘dream’ handed down. The “American Dream” trains us to buy into a belief that a life of personal happiness and material comfort will bring us joy and freedom. And throughout our lives, we work toward that dream. There are moments of great joy and also suffering. Then one day, we arrive at the “dream” and realize that happiness does not live there.
I think that’s the day we begin our quest – our journey within – our practice. We discover that ‘real’ happiness only lives ‘within’. The ‘within’ is our true self – content, peaceful and detached from all the extraneous sources that invite suffering.
The great news: The original journey of striving toward that “dream”, all our life experiences, leads us to our divine purpose. It unfolds like the pages of a book opening to a sacred section. And when we find that sacred section of “SELF”, all is boundless joy.
