What is an empath, intuitive or sometimes called a sensitive?
Being an empath is when you are affected by other people’s energies, and have an innate ability to intuitively feel and perceive others. Your life is unconsciously influenced by others’ desires, wishes, thoughts, and moods. The Mind Unleased, By: Christel Broederlow
Wikipedia says this about intuition, a phenomenon of the mind, describes the ability to acquire knowledge without inference or the use of reason. The word “intuition” comes from Latin verb intueri translated as consider or from late middle English word intuit, “to contemplate”. Intuition is often interpreted with varied meaning from intuition being glimpses of greater knowledge to only a function of mind; however, processes by which and why they happen typically remain mostly unknown to the thinker, as opposed to the view of rational thinking.
From my perspective: an Empath or Intuitive is someone whose subtle body sensory perception is heightened. It can show up in a whole bunch of different ways. Here are some of the ways that you might experience Subtle Body Sensory Perception (SBSP)
1. A gut instinct: a thought accompanied by immediate feeling powers through to the top of your consciousness.
2. Emotional intuition: you are hard wired (so to speak) and can feel the emotional sensations of others at varying levels of intensity. Essentially, you sense what others are feeling; where they feel it, why they feel it and/or even have a perception of action needed.
3. Seeing sensory perception: this can also show up in a variety of ways. Here are a few examples:
a. Seeing auras
b. Seeing into the past or future
c. Seeing energetic body (underactive, overactive and balanced)
d. Seeing images, messages or other beings. (For me, this is often accompanied with a message as though you are hearing it through your mind)
4. Tactile object intuition: experienced when you touch an object, person or visit a place
5. Hearing intuition: can be an experience of literally hearing (a voice, knock, door opening, etc.) and/or also as a message communicated via the mind. (I sometimes experience this as hearing a person’s voice, or as a clear message giving me direction fed through the mind).
First of all let me say you are not crazy! Subtle Body Sensory Perception (SBSP) is quite normal, and most people can or do experience this to some degree. I am also not directly talking about channeling spirits. Although, I think they show up to communicate and help when needed.
I am talking about positive light energy. These are messages, intuition and perception for the highest good.
I also believe anyone is capable of emotionally intuitively plugging in; it is a way of connecting with spirit energy. Yes, some people are naturally gifted with this ability; and it is a skill that can be developed and refined.
Yoga helps us clear the physical, emotional and energetic bodies to cleanse, discern, distinguish and use this information to learn to live in the light, to help us heal as individuals and to help others. It is always about the Highest Good. When we are connected to our pure self, God (The Universal Divine) conspires on our behalf).
By the way – in business, this skill is often referred to as Emotional Intelligence. This skill is often sought after by companies and it can come in quite handy.
I think this topic is both confusing and scary for a lot of people. Please know: you are not alone! There are hundreds of thousands of people who have SBSP. You might need some help learning how to use it and manage it…that is where Yoga comes in.
Now, I cannot speak for all teachers, but at One-Yoga we follow a yogic methodology that is grounded in ancient wisdom, practical application and personal experience. We use the Eight-Limbed Path of Yoga, Ayurveda and Vedantic philosophy as tools for clearing and cleansing, for learning to live a purposeful, joyful life.
