The need to be loved and accepted – just as we are – is a requirement of being human. To receive safe, nurturing affection, attending to our basic needs and assuring us that we are secure, cared for, and valued is so primal. Lack of affection, acceptance, attention and appreciation is in fact at the root of suffering. If these basic needs are not met, we suffer; there is pain, discomfort or a disquieting sense of being; in simple terms: we are not really happy or fulfilled. We are not delighting in our true self. Our thoughts, behavior and actions become clouded (Avidya) in a false understanding of the Truth.
Samskaras / Vasanas (compound somatic energy / habit patterns born of Avidya) are created and unconsciously govern our lives. The Eight-Limbed Path of Yoga – all of it (Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana & Samadhi) when practiced in earnest with diligence, eradicates suffering, clouded perception and samskaras.
The Eight-Limbed Path of Yoga cleanses our tree of life; it connects us with the Divine. And, the spiritual laws of the universe which are always in operation provide guidance and a framework for sustaining the state of blissful clarity.
