I am so grateful to be a yoga teacher. The whole journey of finding yoga, studying, practicing, teaching, studying, practicing, teaching….It has helped me find an inner peace and joy that is delightful.
I remember the turmoil of working in corporate American. The climb up the ladder, the incessant craving to make lots of money, the constant striving to prove myself especially as a woman in a male dominated business, and the feeling of what I thought was success. It was empty of loving spirit.
When I got my first taste of yoga, my spirit screamed for more. I knew deep down inside this was the direction I needed to go. So I went, and I am still going.
Yoga taught me how to live – really live – in a way that is alive, emotionally intimate and profoundly connected. It brings me great peace and joy every single day. And, the teaching of yoga reaffirms my practice and learning every day. It has shown me my calling – it does that for everyone who endeavors on this path. Life is abundant in ways that I couldn’t have imagined. My connection and communication with family, friends, colleagues, and total strangers is authentic and present; I have gained a yoga family that is loving, supportive and strong; and judgement of self and others melted away like a hardened layer of encrusted clay that was holding the ‘real’ me prisoner. It has been replaced with boundless love, understanding and compassion. And yes, I earn a wonderful living doing what I love most. I am so grateful.
How it works is really quite magical. We are disembodied beings for the most part. And yoga reconnects our soul with our physical being through study and direction of the mind. We use the mind as a tool to connect the physical being with the our spiritual marrow. The breath is instrumental in this reunion…and somehow, we rediscover what and who we really are. We discover the “I am”, and in this process, we find what we were meant to do…and it is so awesome!
You might not want to be a yoga teacher – not everyone does. I get that. But the journey of yoga equips everyone with the life skills that reclaim your spiritual essence, and it will show you the way…to your highest, best version of “Self”. It will open the doors that lead you to your calling – your life’s purpose. And when we are in that place, all is well.
If you are ready to find your calling, all you have to do is begin…the practice will show you the way. It does that for everyone.
